Dog Walks

The beautiful forests surrounding Dittisham make for great dog walks

Dittisham Dartmouth

Type of walk:

Hilly, Forest

What’s here:

Paid Parking, Off Lead Areas, On Lead Areas, Pathed Routes, Animals On Route, Picnic Areas, Water On Route, Toilets, Refreshments Available

About this walk:

This is a 6.5 mile circular walk of the lower part of the River Dart estuary starting at Dittisham. Combine your walk with a visit to the National Trust owned Greenway House, the summer home of Agatha Christie. If parking here, follow the route anti-clockwise, as it is important to cross using the Dittisham ferry first as this is the one that stops running first.

There is a visitor car park ‘The Level Car Park’ above the rustic village of Dittisham. Do NOT attempt to drive down to the quay as it is extremely narrow. Cross the river using the tiny passenger ferry and follow the Dart Valley Trail signs to Kinsgwar. This gives great views of the river and includes woodland, pasture and a flat stretch in between the river and the steam railway.
At Kingswear, catch either the passenger ferry by the railway station or car ferry a little lower down the river, to Dartmouth.
Head up the main streets to continue the sign posted trail back to Dittisham.
